Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Unikklab LLC (“we”, “us”), a New Mexico limited liability company, governing your use of the Food Scanner iOS app and any related services (together, “the App”).

By downloading or using the App you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the App.

1. Licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell or sublicence the App, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country, to use the App. If you are under the age of majority, you may use the App only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the App for anything unlawful, or to infringe anyone’s rights;
  • upload content you do not have the right to use, or content depicting another person without their consent;
  • attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the App or its infrastructure;
  • use automated means to access the App at a scale that degrades it for others.

We may suspend or terminate access that breaches these Terms.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of every photo you submit. You grant us a limited licence to host, process and transmit it solely so the App can produce the analysis you asked for.

In practice the image is uploaded to our backend, passed to a third-party AI vision provider, and deleted within 24 hours. We do not use your photos to train models. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

5. Subscriptions and purchases

Food Scanner is free to download. Some features and scan limits are reserved for a paid subscription.

  • The App offers auto-renewing subscriptions purchased through your Apple ID.
  • Payment is charged at confirmation of purchase.
  • A subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the period end.
  • You can manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
  • Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when a subscription is purchased.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. We cannot issue refunds directly, but we are happy to help you raise a request.

6. Third-party services

The App relies on third-party services and, where applicable, AI models. Their availability, accuracy and behaviour are outside our control.

7. Not medical or nutritional advice

This section matters more here than in most apps. Read it.

Food Scanner produces an informational estimate, not a verdict. The health score and the ingredient explanations are generated by an AI model reading what it can see in your photo, and it can be wrong: a blurry label, an unusual product, a reformulated recipe or a partially visible ingredient list all produce unreliable results.

  • The App is not a substitute for advice from a doctor or a registered dietitian.
  • Do not rely on it to manage a medical condition, a pregnancy, or a diagnosed intolerance.
  • Allergen warnings are a second pair of eyes, never the only check. If an ingredient could cause you harm, read the packaging and, when in doubt, do not eat it. Manufacturers change recipes without notice and the App cannot know that.

By using the App you accept that decisions about what you eat remain yours.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the App available and working, but we may modify, suspend or discontinue any feature at any time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the App is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 50.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Apple

Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation to provide support for the App. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. Any claim that the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty may be directed to Apple, which may refund the purchase price; beyond that, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The “Last updated” date reflects the current version. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The courts of New Mexico have jurisdiction, except where the consumer protection law of your own country gives you the right to bring a claim there.
